KALAP-TULONG: Relief Mission for the victims of typhoon Ofel
OPERATION: KALAP-TULONG 27 October 2012 Dear Kababayans and Friends, The Reporma Para sa Pagbabago (RPM), a socio-political institution for political reform and good governance, along with church people and Christian leaders, in Bansud Oriental Mindoro, has taken the lead in organizing the ”OPERATION: KALAP-TULONG”, a relief mission to help Mindoreño victims of disaster brought about by Typhoon Ofel on October 25, 2012. The whole province of Oriental Mindoro has been declared under a “state of calamity,” as damages and casualties increased as a result of Typhoon Ofel in the island province. Most of the typhoon victims are from the town of Bansud, which has 1,500 families or 7,462 people affected and now being treated in different evacuation centers there. There are 23 houses reported to be totally damaged, while 132 houses are partially damaged. As of the afternoon of October 26, there are 2,824 families or 10,186 individuals were left affected by the typhoon in almost all the municipalities and one city of Oriental Mindoro. The death toll in Oriental Mindoro has reached four people, the latest of those were identified as Eleanor Paz, 56, of Bulalacao town; Monalyn Magbanua, also of Bulalacao; and Jun Saez, 38, of Bansud municipality. As of today, October 27, more than 70 percent of electric consumers in the whole Oriental Mindoro are still under a state of “blackout” or no supply of electricity because of the toppled down electrical posts and cut-off power lines as a result of wind surge during the typhoon. In this light, we are requesting our Kababayans and friends some relief goods including used clothing, canned goods and any other similar goods and toiletries for immediate distribution. We Hope for your immediate response. PLEASE BRING DONATIONS TO: RPM Headquarters, Barangay Pag-asa, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.
